Statement of the Distinguished IAHR-APD Membership Award

Distinguished IAHR-APD Membership Award

Endorsed by the EC at its Meeting in Madrid April 2009 and by Council in Vancouver

According to the Clause 4.3, Chapter 4, of the BY-LAWS of the Asian and Pacific Regional Division of International Association of Hydraulic Engineering and Research, in short IAHR-APD,

IAHR members from the Asia Pacific region with outstanding contribution to any of area of hydraulics may be awarded honorary membership of the Division by its executive committee. Not more than two honorary members may be elected at each biennial meeting of the committee.

The awarding procedure is formulated as follows,

  • The Award of IAHR-APD Honorary Membership is stated as Distinguished IAHR-APD Membership Award.
  • IAHR members of outstanding merit to the Asian and Pacific region may be awarded as Distinguished IAHR-APD Member by the Division Executive Committee, whose merit should be represented in his/her academic achievement in hydraulic engineering and research; through outstanding contribution to the activities of the division, such as excellent service in APD Executive Committee, successful organization of APD congresses and meetings; active promotion to exchange and cooperation within IAHR-APD family and other related activities.
  • The Distinguished IAHR-APD Members are elected at each APD Executive Committee Meeting during the biennial IAHR-APD Congress. The candidates for the Distinguished IAHR-APD Member can contest the election only if they are recommended by at least two current APD EC members. Not more than two awards may be elected at one time.
  • The results of the election would be immediately informed to the IAHR Secretariat and then to IAHR Council for their endorsement.
  • The Distinguished IAHR-APD Membership Award will be awarded at the Closing Ceremony of the APD Congress by its Chairman with a certificate.

This procedure was discussed in detail in and approved by the IAHR-APD EC Meeting on 20th Oct. 2008 during the 16th IAHR-APD Congress in Nanjing, and was put into function after the approval of Annex 7a IAHR 2009 Council Meeting, Vancouver of the IAHR Council meeting held in 33rd IAHR Congress, in Vancouver, Canada in Aug. 2009.
