24th IAHR-APD Congress – “Water for a Changing Future”

14 – 17 Oct 2024, Wuhan, China

Jointly organized by the Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute (CRSRI) & Sichuan Univ.
> 500 participants from 30 + countries (gov’t, IOs, academia, industry, students).
Eight sub-themes ranging from hazard-risk reduction to smart-water tech & estuarine/coastal engineering.
500 + abstracts → 230 full papers accepted (recommended for Scopus).
12 special sessions & 4 side events; technical & post-conference tours (Three Gorges Dam, Dujiangyan, Giant Panda Base, etc.).
Heritage nomination: Hankou Hydrological Station (1865).
Advanced regional cooperation toward the UN SDGs.

IAHR-APD Executive Committee (EC) Meeting

14 Oct 2024, Wuhan, China

First fully face-to-face EC since the pandemic; 11 / 15 members (> 73 %) present, co-chaired by Prof. Norio Tanaka (Chair) & Dr. Won Kim (Secretary).
Reviewed 2023–24 APD activities & finances; endorsed 25th & 26th Congress hosts; approved by-law amendments (Executive Committee size, YPN seat, Secretariat rules).
Recorded in official minutes for transparency & archival.

Journal of Hydro-Environment Research (JHER)

Continues joint publication (Elsevier) with KWRA & IAHR-APD.

2018-23: 2 462 submissions → 556 sent to review; 39 % acceptance.
2023 Impact Factor = 2.470 (steady rise).
Emphasis on rapid, high-quality eco-hydraulics & water-resources research; global authorship.

Distinguished IAHR-APD Membership Award

Oct 2024, Wuhan, China

Awarded to Dr. Gregory Shahane De Costa (Open Polytechnic NZ) for decades-long contributions (APD VP 2014-18, President 2018-22; Congress chair 2010 & 2016).

Cited for advancing hydro-environmental collaboration across APD.

Call for abstracts opens 1 Jul 2025; full papers due 1 Apr 2026.
Master classes (2), Best Paper Awards, video-poster sessions, tech exhibition.

Joint hosts: Open Polytechnic NZ & Victoria Univ. of Wellington.
Five-day programme: pre-workshops, technical sessions, dinner, visits.
